How to Enable and Disable the Activation Lock on Your iPhone or iPad

Introduced with iOS 7, Activation Lock is a feature that links your iPhone or iPad with your Apple ID, making it impossible for your device to be used by another person should it be stolen. In the unfortunate event that your iOS device goes missing, the person who has possession of it will be required to enter your Apple ID and password in order to activate it after it has been wiped. In this article we’ll show you how you can take advantage of this impressive security feature.

How to Enable Activation Lock

In order to enable Activation Lock, you need to enable Find my iPhone on your device.

1. Open Settings

2. Tap on iCloud

2. To go the iCloud tab.

3. Choose Find My iPad

3. Open the Find My iPhone section. If you’re using an iPad, the section will be called Find my iPad.

4. Enable Find My iPad

5. Allow to share your location

5. Allow for your location to be shared in the popup that appears. At this point Activation Lock has been activated. Make sure you have your Apple ID and password written somewhere since those are required for the smooth operation of your iPhone or iPad.

6. Send Last Location

6. For added protection, you can also opt to send the last known location of your device to Apple when the battery life becomes critical, although this is not required for Activation Lock to function.

How To Disable Activation Lock
