    When you do programming since some time, you can end up doing your own databases somewhere, where you collect a lot of structured data. It can range from XML files - which are a bit verbose, yes - to spreadsheets and sometimes even text files - not a good idea.

    My question is about the experience you got about these databases, the usage in real-world programs, and if you tried other database techniques, like using binary files, how do you handle insertion quickly, all problems you have to think about when you have to store data and you don't use libraries yet.
